Scotland-based musicians and songwriters ‘Edy Forey’ (vocalist Edy Szewy and pianist Guilhem Forey) are proud to present ‘The Fire’ – a debut single driven by Femi Koleoso on the drum kit and engineered by the legendary Bob Power, taken from their forthcoming album ‘Culture Today’, set for release in 2024.

The duo’s contemporary approach to their art takes retro rhythm & blues, soul and funk and wraps it in jazz, inspired by their varied musical upbringings. Having been raised on a diet of vintage American soul, R&B and hip hop, artistically influenced by the likes of Donny Hathaway, Phillis Hyman, Gill Scott-Heron and Lauryn Hill, Edy’s inspirations contrast with the jazz sensibilities of Guilhem, who was raised around the sonic brilliance of Michel Petrucciani, Chick Corea, George Duke and Herbie Hancock. The combination of these influences when brought together create a unique sound that Edy Forey have developed into an accomplished body of work, the first instalment of which is ‘The Fire’!

On it, Edy Forey has drafted in the expertise of Femi Koleoso from recent Mercury Music Prize winning band Ezra Collective on drums, as well as the on-demand Adam King on double bass. Both the single and album are mixed and mastered by the GRAMMY award winning producer Bob Power, the engineer behind D’Angelo, Erykah Badu and A Tribe Called Quest, who remarks: In my 35+ years in the upper echelons of the professional music business,

Edy Forey

I have seldom met a duo with more talent and drive. They combine a unique and compelling blend of pop music sensibility with a deep foundation of advanced musicianship.

Edy Forey’s album ‘Culture Today’ features various other luminaries, including bassist Michael League and saxophonist, Bob Reynolds (GRAMMY winners with Snarky Puppy) Sharay Reed (Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles, Aretha Franklin, Rachelle Ferrell, Chaka Khan) Alex Hahn (GRAMMY winning saxophonist) Sarpay Ozcagatay (GRAMMY nominated flutist), Japanese jazz veteran Toku on flugelhorn, Miho Wada on flute and percussion from Brazilians Isac Jamba and Carlinhos Percussao – watch this space for further news about this one of a kind project.
